A yacht is primarily a means of transportation. Therefore, there are certain rules of conduct on board that, if followed, help avoid misunderstandings, ensure your trip is safe, and leave only pleasant memories.
Rules of Conduct on a Yacht
The captain is always right, as the safety and success of the journey depend on them. The captain is responsible for their passengers throughout the trip. Follow the captain’s advice, recommendations, and instructions, and act only upon their command.
You should only board the yacht with clean shoes or barefoot. Do not enter the yacht with shoes that have black soles, as they leave marks on the deck, or with high heels.
If the yacht is sailing under sail power, do not walk on the deck without the captain’s permission.
Be cautious when turning and changing course.
When the yacht is docking, do not block the captain’s view or distract them.
Handling the yacht’s electronic equipment is strictly prohibited.
Always descend into the cabin facing backward.
If you are inside the yacht and plan to exit to the cockpit, ask your companions if they need anything you could bring along.
Do not make noise on the yacht during docking, departure, and when anchored. Definitely, do not play music too loudly. Show respect for the crew on neighboring yachts.
Do not pollute the environment. Waste should not be thrown overboard, whether at sea or in port.
Conserve water. The yacht has limited fresh water, and there might not always be an opportunity to replenish it.
The yacht’s toilet operates a bit differently from those at home. It might sound funny, but be sure to ask how to use it. Do not throw toilet paper or other objects into the toilet or drain holes.
Keep the yacht clean.
On the yacht, consuming red products is prohibited—no red wine, red berries; eating food with sauces (like burgers or hot dogs) is also prohibited—essentially anything that might leave stains if spilled on the deck or clothing.
Following these rules is essential for ensuring safety and comfort on board. It also helps you enjoy your yacht trip and creates a pleasant atmosphere for everyone on board.
